About Marapong Funwalk

The annual Marapong Funwalk is a community development initiative launched by the youth of Marapong in 2019. Officially registered as a Non-Profit Organization (NPO) in 2024 under registration number 302-371 NPO and verified with the Department of Social Development in the Republic of South Africa, the organization is dedicated to addressing societal issues and fostering positive change in the community.

One of our key initiatives is the Marapong Funwalk, an annual event aimed at promoting healthy living, unity, and inclusivity. The event serves as a vibrant platform where people of all ages can come together to celebrate well-being, encourage active lifestyles, and strengthen community bonds. Additionally, the event provides local businesses with an opportunity to engage with the community. In preparation for the main event, we also host activation games such as soccer and netball. These games are open to both active and non-active players and are designed to promote sports, health, and active participation within the community. The Marapong Funwalk features a variety of activities, including a 5–6-kilometer walk, followed by boot camp sessions, aerobics, indigenous games, and a networking event. The event generates income through T-shirt sales, vendor stall fees, and donations. These funds are then used to provide educational resources, support aspiring entrepreneurs, and offer opportunities for young talents to showcase their skills.
The organizing committee consists of 21 dedicated members, each contributing to the event’s financial sustainability through a membership fee.

Marapong Funwalk is not just an event; it is a community-driven initiative focused on improving the well-being and prosperity of Marapong and its neighboring villages.
